(Update: 11:15 a.m.): A small wildfire burning east of Merritt is officially "being held."
According to fire information officer Marla Catherall, the fire was originally thought to be two hectares, but after more accurate mapping, it ended up being six hectares.
"The status of that wildfire is being held," said Catherall. "It's estimated at six-hectares in size. Yesterday it was estimated at two-hectares in size, the difference is just more accurate mapping from ground crews because they were able to track it."
Catherall adds that three personnel are on site today and, barring any outrageous weather, the BC Wildfire should see success fighting this blaze.
"I can't really speak to when the status will change but it's looking pretty quiet and it's in patrol status so they're just walking through and peaking any hot spots to extinguish. It is human-caused as we haven't had any lightning in that area recently."
NowMedia will update the story when more information is available.
