New look Carate Park opens in West Kelowna

The City of West Kelowna is kicking off fall by opening the new look Carate Park.

After a transformation this summer, the park in Westbank Centre, near the intersection of Majoros and Witt, is ready to welcome residents.

“We invite the community to stop by and experience Carate Park’s unique-to-West Kelowna features, including a one-of-a-kind playground and a walking path connecting two pollinator gardens for the bees,” said Stacey Harding, parks and fleet manager.

“The $140,000, 12-week improvement project was made possible mostly from cost charges on new development and upgrades were completed last week.”

The transformation has been incredible, but you will have to go check it out for yourself.

As Carate Park opens, the Kid’s Care Spray Park at the other end of the neighbourhood is now closed for the season.

With seasonal fall weather now upon us, the City also announced today that barbequing is once again permitted in West Kelowna parks.

“Thankfully the cooler, wetter weather has reduced the fire hazard rating, which had been at high to extreme all summer and has now dropped to moderate,” said Jason Brolund, West Kelowna fire chief.

“Parks users must take all proper precautions when barbequing in our parks, or anywhere for that matter and remember, no smoking or vaping is allowed in our parks, on our trails or at public spaces in the City of West Kelowna.”

The City clarified that the lifting of the barbeque ban applies to recently reopened parks in Glenrosa that were closed because of the Mount Law wildfire.
