Security forces in Jamaica have been given increased powers to search, seize and detain people of interest during the state of emergency.

Any Canadians travelling to the affected areas are advised to:

  • Always cooperate with military and police officers

  • Carry valid ID

  • Avoid leaving resorts after dark

  • Allow extra time to reach your destination

  • Monitor local news

Among the things to be on the lookout for are:

  • Violent crime

  • Petty crime

  • Fraud

  • Assault
