The new decade is underway and Airbnb is already starting to see a few trends emerge from travelers around the globe.
Many of these travelers are relying on Airbnb to book their accommodation, experiences and more, so the travel company has started to identify a few trends.
“Travelers are seeking ways to have unique, transformative experiences they will remember for years to come,” says an Airbnb release. “In fact, people are willing to pay up for them.”
A recent survey commissioned by Airbnb found that 57% of Americans prefer to spend their money on experiences over things and 37% plan to increase that type of spending in 2020.
According to Airbnb, these are the five experience-based travel trends that have risen to the top.
For each of these trends, Airbnb has listed a number of experiences that are growing in popularity, but there are certain things you wouldn’t expect.
An 83% increase in people staying in natural settings like igloos has sparked a ‘Most Wish Listed Igloos’ list.
A heavy interest in history and learning about the past has prompted the travel site to identify historical homes for people to stay in.
A desire to connect more spiritually to the earth has Airbnb identifying trending meditation experiences like a meditation and sound journey in Joshua Tree.
