(UPDATE: July 6 @ 3:05 pm) - Missing teenagers Dylan DeRoy and Jordan Phillion have been found.
According to the West Shore RCMP, they were spotted by an RCMP air services helicopter this afternoon.
"The boy's vehicle left them stranded after they got stuck on a back road in the Copper Canyon area of Chemainus," said Cpl. Chris Dovell. "The boys are safe and returning home to their families in Langford."
DeRoy and Phillion, who are 18 and 15 respectively, were reported missing on Sunday night after they didn't return home from what was supposed to be a day trip into the backcountry.
(Original story: July 6 @ 2:30 pm) - The search is on for a pair of Vancouver Island teens who set out on a day trip on Sunday, but never returned.
According to a Facebook post from a family member, Dylan DeRoy, 18, and Jordan Phillion, 15, left around 10:30 am for “their usual Sunday adventure along the logging roads.”
Unfortunately, the two teens didn’t return in the evening, which led to the two families contacting the police.
According to an RCMP release, DeRoy’s cell phone was last used at 11:34 am on Sunday near the 300 block of Gibbins Road in North Cowichan, but there’s been no cell activity since then.
It’s believed the two teens could be traveling on back roads towards the Youbou or Lake Cowichan area in DeRoy’s 1996 white GMC Sonoma pickup truck.
The truck has BC licence plates PD3539 and a ‘Syclone’ sticker near the back.
It’s not believed that they were prepared to camp or spend the night, as they only packed for a day trip.
Search and rescue teams continue to search for the missing teens and the RCMP has resources in the sky aiding those on the ground.
Police say they’re concerned for the wellbeing of DeRoy and Phillion and are asking anyone who might have seen the teens or the white GMC to contact their local police immediately.
