RCMP kicking off annual CounterAttack holiday campaign

Holiday parties and events are a great way to get together with friends, family or coworkers and enjoy a few drinks.

However, it can also lead to someone making the wrong decision to get behind the wheel of a car when they’ve had those drinks.

That’s where the annual holiday CounterAttack campaign comes into play, as the provincial government, police and ICBC hope to keep people honest and safe on the roads.

It’ll begin this weekend with roadchecks around B.C. and last throughout the holiday season.

"Generations of B.C. drivers and passengers have grown up with CounterAttack's deterrent messages and stepped-up seasonal enforcement,” said Mike Farnworth, minister of public safety.

“With cannabis now legal in Canada, we're determined to preserve CounterAttack's life-saving benefits in detecting alcohol- and drug-affected drivers and removing them from B.C.'s roads."
