BC open to building a refinery to help curb soaring gas prices

Building a refinery in BC was floated as a possible solution to the province’s soaring gas prices on Thursday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Ottawa is open to refinery proposals from the private sector as a public inquiry into the BC’s soaring gas prices continues.

When questioned about the possibility, Premier John Horgan said BC wants to transition away from fossil fuel dependence, but that transition should be aided by more refined product.

“Having 99% of our oil go to the United States doesn’t do anything for our environment,” said Trudeau to reporters.

“Putting the profits from the TMX into the green transition will do a lot for the environment.”
