BC anti-gang unit makes largest drug seizure ‘in recent years’

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC has released details surrounding what's being called one of the largest drug seizures the unit has made in recent years.

On Jan. 8th, 2020, while conducting a targeted investigation into potential prolific drug traffickers, CFSEU-BC officers observed what they believed was a significant drug transaction taking place.

A vehicle believed to be involved in the transaction fled after officers attempted to pull the driver and passenger over near Cloverdale in the Lower Mainland.

When the vehicle was stopped, police seized 38 kilograms of suspected heroin, 10 kg of imitation prescription painkiller, 1.5 kg of suspected methamphetamine, $20,000 in cash and three firearms.

According to officials, seizing the drugs has taken perhaps millions of deadly doses of fentanyl off the street.

As a result of the seizure, the two individuals in the vehicle were arrested and officers have also conducted six additional search warrants in the Lower Mainland area.

“A seizure of this size will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the individuals and group that we seized it from to operate,” said Superintendent Paul Dadwal, the CFSEU-BC’s Acting Chief Officer.

“While we have a lot of investigative work ahead of us, we have been able to, at the very least, take tens of thousands, if not millions, of potentially deadly doses of fentanyl and other drugs off the streets.”
