13-year-old girl in BC reports video of woman in crisis in Ohio, potentially saving her life

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police share a file that ended up potentially saving someone’s life across the border.

Cst. Clint Hampton said in a video statement that this morning he came across a file that “too important not to discuss.”

He added that the story may even be able to help other people out there who are struggling.

Hampton said that the transit police had a 13-year-old girl text them after she came across a “concerning” video on YouTube during her transit journey.

The video depicted another young woman swallowing pills and referencing suicide.

Hampton said that the transit police got to work and were able to determine that the woman in crisis was 4,000 kms away in Ohio, USA.

From that point, Hampton said they were able to get in touch with police services and the authorities were able to get the young woman the help she needed.

“Remember — it’s okay to not be okay,” Hampton concluded.

Anyone who’s in crisis and needs immediate help is urged to call 911.

If you, or someone you know, is in need of support, call the Crisis Line at 1.888.353.CARE (2273).

Text services are also available between 4 pm and midnight every day. Simply text 45645 for help.
