New Democrat Russel on way to victory

Roly Russell appears on his way to victory in the riding of Boundary Similkameen.

Russell, a director with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, beat out Oliver town councillor Aimee Grice to run for the NDP in the riding, and held a sizeable lead over Liberal Petra Veintimilla, also an Oliver town councillor, with 80 of 98 polls reporting.

As of 10:40 pm, Russell, from Grand Forks, has garnered 5,468 votes, or 48.9% of the vote.

Veintimilla had 3,959 votes, or 35.4% of the vote.

Conservative Daryl Seres had 13.1% of the vote, while Wexit BC candidate Arlyn Greig had 2.6%.

The seat had been held by Liberal Linda Larsen, who announced she would not seek re-election, the past two terms.

Boundary Similkameen

- Roly Russell (NDP): 5,468 votes

- Petra Veintimilla (Liberal): 3,959 votes

- Daryl Seres (Conservative): 1,459 votes

- Arlyn Greig (BC Wexit): 291 votes
