Negative COVID tests throughout Vees organization

The Penticton Vees appear to be coronavirus-free.

On Nov. 28, the Vees announced that one member of the team had tested positive for COVID-19, at which point, all players were placed in a 14-day quarantine.

This past Friday, the Vees released positive news, that all close contacts of the player, including Vees players and staff, have been tested for the virus and tests have all come back negative.

“I am very pleased with the professional approach our players, and of course our medical staff, took to ensure the situation would stay isolated,” said Vees president, general manager and head coach Fred Harbinson, “I also want to take the time to thank our billets for all their support during these difficult times.”

Despite the negative test results, all close contacts remain in quarantine until early next week when they will have completed their 14 days.

The Vees player in question is the second BCHL player to have tested positive for COVID-19 this season, after a member of the Surrey Eagles contracted the virus in October. Both situations were limited to one isolated case on the team and an outbreak was avoided.

On Nov. 23, and in accordance with the BC Hockey League COVID-19 Safety Plan, the BCHL announced it would adhere to Provincial Health Office (PHO) orders and not schedule games between until midnight on Dec. 7.

The league is meeting Monday afternoon to discuss a start to the regular season.
