Woman dies after crash in Okanagan over the weekend

A woman died in a tragic crash on Hwy 97A at the weekend.

Mounties in Vernon said the crash happened at about 2:30 pm near Powerhouse Road in Spallumcheen.

According to an initial investigation, police said it seems a vehicle heading south crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant in the southbound vehicle was the woman found to have died.

Two people from the other vehicle – the driver and the passenger – were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for a number of hours after the crash.

“The outcome of this collision was a tragic one and the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP send their condolences to all those affected,” said RCMP Cst Jocelyn Noseworthy.

“This is a busy time of the year on our highways, and driving conditions change quickly. RCMP urge motorists to stay alert, drive to the road conditions and to allow enough time for your travel plans."

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, police added.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the RCMP are asked to call officers in Armstrong.

The woman’s name will not be released, police explained.

Her death is being investigated by the BC Coroners Service.
