Hundreds of vulnerable children will be given the opportunity to go to summer camps, play sports and much more after the YMCA of Okanagan raised $91,000.
Nearly 350 cyclists took part in the Cycle for Strong Kids event on May 26, helping raise cash for disadvantaged youth in the region.
“We are blown away by the generosity of our community,” said Rhonda Zakala, vice president of fund development at the YMCA.
“The riders all had a blast at the event, but it pales in comparison to how much fun they’ve gifted back to local kids, granting them access to summer camps, after school programs, basketball, swim lessons and so many other vital programs many parents can’t afford on their own.”
The YMCA said that having access to “character and strength-building programs” is vital to help bridge the poverty gap between children.
