Busy weekend puts Search and Rescue on pace for record year

A busy weekend has put Central Okanagan Search and Rescue on pace for its busiest year yet.

On Friday evening, crews were first called out to retrieve a young woman who had fainted on the Kettle Valley Railway.

Early the following morning, crews were called into action again after a three year old motorcycle rider tumbled over a steep embankment in the Bear Creek riding area.

Paramedics were able to quickly reach the young rider and COSAR was able to stand down.

However, the busy weekend was not over yet.

On Sunday, RCMP called on COSAR to help search for an overdue hunter that was in the Sandrift Lake area and failed to return home earlier that evening.

COSAR was mobilizing to start searching at first light with CASARA ( the Canadian Air Search And Rescue Association) when word came back that the RCMP had located the hunter safely spending the night in a forest service camp.

So far this year, COSAR was been called out 29 times with April being our busiest month with 12 tasks.

Last year saw 82 callouts and was the busiest year on record since COSAR was founded in 1954.
