A $50,000 donation has been made to support local BC food banks

A donation of $40,000 has been made to Food Banks BC by the First West Credit Union and its local divisions, Valley First, Envision Financial, Island Savings, and Enderby and District Financial.

With a combined donation of 40k from the branches, First West Credit Union board member Ken Voth, has pledged an additional $10,000 to the “Feed the Valley’ cause.

With many people recently displaced by wildfires in the province, the donation comes at a time when food banks in BC desperately need the support.

“It’s times like these when communities need to come together, and we hope that this gesture can help keep food on the table for the individuals and families impacted by this unfortunate situation,” says Paulo Araujo, President at Valley First.

The donation will be split between Food Banks BC in the Okanagan, Thompson, and Similkameen Valleys.

Last year over 80,000 British Columbian families accessed a food bank, one of three clients is a child.

“As yet another crisis hits our food banks, this donation will be used to help provide them with access to critical supplies such as food, water, and other necessities,” says Dan Huang-Taylor, Executive Director at Food Banks BC.
