A freak accident shortly after giving birth to a pair of kittens has cost a local cat her leg.
Louise gave birth in the soft hay of a horse stall in Kelowna, but the startled horse reared and landed on the mother cat’s leg.
“This mother cat’s fractured right hind leg had to be amputated,” said Sean Hogan, manager of the Kelowna SPCA. “She’s lucky no other damage was done to her or her kittens.”
Hogan says she’s a great mom and has been taking care of her two kittens, Sprout and Seed, who are healthy.
Louise will be spayed and up for adoption, along with both kittens, in around two months, but for now she’s recovering at the Kelowna SPCA.
Animal lovers are encouraged to donate towards Louise’s recovery, which is expected to cost more than $2,000.
