Solid Rock Video is searching for extras to play some street hockey next week in a film meant to highlight those experiencing homelessness in downtown Kelowna.
The scene will be shot on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 259 Leon Avenue between 9:45 and 11 am, when community members of all ages are invited.
"Sports has a way of bringing people of all walks of life together. It's something we have in common, and this video is about showcasing the things we all have in common,” said Curtis Allen, owner of Solid Rock Video.
“You may have had dreams of playing in the NHL as a child, and someone currently experiencing homelessness may have had the same dream."
The project has been commissioned by Kelowna Gospel Mission with the goal changing the negative stigma of the homeless along Leon Ave.
"We want to show that homeless are the same as anyone. It is certain situations that change our path,” says Michael Morrison, Director of Development, Kelowna Gospel Mission.
“This video can help to take away that negative picture”
Leon Ave between Abbott and Water Streets will closed to traffic and parking between 6 am and 1 pm as a result of filming.
