Dog dies in Rutland house fire

Kelowna fire crews have knocked down a house fire that began in Rutland this morning.

Sadly, one dog who was inside the residence was unable to escape and died in the fire.

Firefighters rushed to the scene in the 100 block of Valleyview Road around 9:41 am today.

When they arrived they found flames and smoke coming from the back of the four-unit residence.

Crews were able to knock down the fire relatively quickly, but not before it damaged half of the basement and upper suite.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it’s not deemed suspicious at this time.
