(UPDATE: May 20 @ 8:15 am) - A man accused of making lewd sexual gestures at a pair of children on a public transit bus in Kamloops has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter.

After the RCMP made the incident public earlier this month, the man contacted police and cooperated with the investigation.

"Through interviewing and the collection of new surveillance video, the RCMP have determined no criminal act took place," explained an RCMP release.

Police thanked everyone who participated in the investigation, including those who reported the suspected behaviour and provided photos.

"Allegations of this nature are taken seriously and we are happy to report that as a result of a thorough investigation, no wrong-doing was identified," said Cst. Crystal Evelyn.

"We are thankful to the youth, the public, and the man for their cooperation in this investigation."

With the investigation complete and the suspect cleared, KamloopsNow has removed photos of the suspect from this story.

(Original story: May 6 @ 3:30 pm) - The Kamloops RCMP is trying to identify a man who allegedly made lewd sexual gestures at a pair of children while riding a public transit bus.

It happened around 4 pm on Wednesday, as a young teen on the bus with their younger sibling.

The children reported that the man began to make sexual gestures towards the older sibling before they exited the bus in the Columbia Street West area.

However, a short time later, they noticed the same man on foot looking at them, which led them to seek out the assistance of nearby adults.

“We are thankful to the youth for bringing this concerning incident to our attention,” said Constable Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

“Police are releasing an image of the alleged suspect with hope that someone will be able to identify him, or he’ll come forth, and help us further our investigation.”

The suspect is described as a 6’1” Black man with black hair who was wearing a yellow t-shirt and ripped jeans at the time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
