Kamloops man found by police four days after suffering a fall at home

Thanks to a wellbeing check by the Kamloops RCMP, a man is in hospital recovering from a fall at his home.

On October 13, Kamloops Mounties received a call from a concerned family member indicating that they had not heard from their family member in several months but that he was living in the Kamloops area.

The family had important news to share with the man but they had been unable to locate him for some time and were becoming very concerned for his safety.

An officer conducted several community checks and was able to find the last known address for the man.

He attended the residence and knocked on the door but there was no response.

Neighbours confirmed the man lived next door, but said they too had not seen the man for several days.

Becoming more and more concerned for the man’s safety, the investigator was able to secure a key for the man’s residence and entered.

He located the man lying on the floor in very grave condition. Four days prior, he had fallen and was not able to get up to help himself or call for assistance.

An ambulance was called and the man was quickly taken to hospital where he continues to recover.

“This was a matter of a front line RCMP officer conducting a very timely investigation and being in the right place at the right time to not only find this man, but to help him. All too often RCMP members are sadly subject to discovering a deceased person who hasn’t been heard in some time but fortunately for this man the investigator came at the right time,” said Sgt. Darren Michels of the Kamloops Detachment.

“This was an excellent investigation that had great results.”
