Police in Kamloops have identified the suspect in a hit and run that took place in the city on Saturday.
According to RCMP, at 12:05 pm, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Tranquille Road at Yew Street where one car had been rear-ended. Both vehicles were driving north when one was about to make a left-hand turn on Yew Street.
The second vehicle didn't notice the other turning and collided with it. This caused the one to be pushed into the intersection and, eventually, into a wooden planter.
Following the incident, the driver of the vehicle that caused the collision was seen walking away from the scene before police, fire or ambulance had a chance to arrive. The woman who was rear-ended suffered minor injuries and was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for precautionary reasons.
Investigators were quickly able to identify the driver who fled the scene. He was uninjured and will be facing charges.
"We are thankful that nobody was seriously hurt in this incident. We have no reasons to suspect that alcohol played any part in this collision this time around, it appears that distraction was the main factor," said S/Sgt Mathias Van Laer. "In this case, we suspect that an improperly secured pet inside the vehicle may have been the distracting factor."
