A brand of frozen breaded chicken is being recalled over fears of salmonella contamination.
Sofina Foods Inc. is recalling Janes’ Pub Style Chicken Nuggets from the marketplace, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said on Thursday.
It added there had been "illnesses associated with the consumption of this product," but did not offer any more details.
The recall affects 800g packages with a best before date of December 15th.
CFIA added: "Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.
"Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis."
It is the third time this year the agency has announced a recall on frozen chicken nuggets, after previous notices affecting Compliments brand and Crisp & Delicious brand products.
It also follows the recall of Janes brand Pub Style Chicken Burgers last October and Pub Style Chicken Strips in November.
