More residents to return home as flood risk lessens in Merritt

Emergency crews continue to work in Merritt following the disastrous flooding that hit the region last month.

According to the City of Merritt, the risk of flooding has passed in the community. Evacuation orders for homes in phases three and four have now been lifted and residents situated in those areas can re-enter their houses.

Properties that are still under evacuation orders will qualify for more Emergency Support Services. Properties that haven't seen their order lifted are currently uninhabitable, unsafe, do not have natural gas, do not have water, do not have sewer, do not have electricity and more.

Shown below is a map of which homes are still affected by the flooding. Uninhabitable homes, which are situated between Nicola, Walnut, Hicks, and Priest Avenues, are marked in red.

A boil water notice is still in place for the entire city. Numerous hazards are still affecting flooded areas.
