Provincial cannabis sales experiencing a roller coaster effect

Much like the volatile cannabis stock market, initial sales have seen a roller coaster effect during the first two days of legalization.

First day sales numbers in B.C. surged on Wednesday, Oct. 17, only to experience a 70% drop the following day.

According to the BC Liquor Distribution Branch, 9,175 transactions were placed on day 1, followed by 2,563 transactions on Oct. 18.

As of this morning, online cannabis sales totalled 11,738.

The BC Cannabis Store in Kamloops, currently the province’s only legal storefront, served 805 people on Oct. 17, 521 people on Oct.18, for a total of 1,326.

At this time, the BC LDB is not releasing the total value of products sold, however, the cheapest product available in the province is a pre-rolled joint for $4.20.

If the baseline for sales is set at that minimum purchase price of $4.20, B.C. made roughly $41,000 in sales the first day.

Canada is experiencing country wide shortage in supplies, in B.C. all capsules were sold out within hours, as well as several oils, pre-rolls, and dried flower.
