Weekly case counts on the decline for most of BC Interior

The weekly COVID-19 case totals are trending downwards for much of the Interior, newly released data show.

The Kamloops, Revelstoke, Merritt and Central Okanagan, Salmon Arm and Vernon health areas all show declines in new cases for the week of Feb. 14–20.

Small increases on the previous week – Feb. 7–13 – have been logged in the South Okanagan, Penticton, Cranbrook and Grand Forks areas, however.

The highest number of cases in the Interior was recorded in Kamloops in the most recent data.

Kamloops was also the worst-hit health area in the previous week’s figures.

The Central Okanagan is next with 36 new cases, followed by Merritt with 12.

Sadly, five new deaths were reported by Interior Health yesterday, alongside 30 new cases.

It brings the region's total number of COVID-related deaths to 101, with the total number of positive tests now up to 7,271 (654 of which are currently active).

Speaking yesterday, Interior Health President and CEO Susan Brown said: “There is hope on the horizon as we get closer to the public vaccination clinics but until then, we all play a role in limiting the spread of COVID-19 so let’s focus on the public health measures that can protect ourselves and most vulnerable loved ones.”
