There were only 30 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the BC Interior over the past 24 hours.
It brings the region to 7,271 total cases since the start of the pandemic, with 654 currently active.
There are now 24 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in the BC Interior and nine of them are in intensive care.
Although there were just two deaths reported BC-wide today, Interior Health reported five new casualties to bring the region’s death toll over 100 to 101.
The BC Centre for Disease Control dashboard also still says 96 deaths of IH, but a representative from the health authority told NowMedia that “sometimes there’s a lag until it gets reported to the BCCDC.”
Four of the deaths are connected to current or past outbreaks in Vernon and Kamloops, while the other happened in the community or hospital.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones and caregivers of these individuals,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO of IH.
“There is hope on the horizon as we get closer to the public vaccination clinics but until then, we all play a role in limiting the spread of COVID-19 so let’s focus on the public health measures that can protect ourselves and most vulnerable loved ones.”
