Interior Health reports record-high daily COVID-19 case count

Another 132 cases of COVID-19 were identified in the BC Interior over the past 24 hours, which is a record high daily case count for Interior Health.

It brings the region to 9,295 total cases since the start of the pandemic, with 833 currently active.

Twenty-three people are hospitalized with COVID-19 in the BC Interior and nine of them are in intensive care.

There were no new deaths to report since Thursday.

Another 7,000 people were vaccinated in the BC Interior over the past 24 hours, which is around 2,000 higher than the daily average we saw for most of the week.

To date, more than 134,000 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine through IH.

Here’s an update from the health authority on its three active outbreaks:

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 28 cases: 25 residents and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Kelowna General Hospital unit 4E has three cases: one patient and two staff.
  • Vernon Jubilee Hospital Level 3 surgical unit has 14 cases: 10 patients and four staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
