IH reports 131 new COVID-19 cases, additional deaths including person in their 40s

Another 131 cases of COVID-19 were identified in the BC Interior over the three-day weekend reporting period.

It brings the region to 11,425 total cases since the start of the pandemic, with 461 currently active.

There are 26 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the BC Interior and 12 of them are in critical care.

Due to data issues on the BC Centre for Disease Control’s COVID-19 dashboard, we haven’t reported on pandemic deaths since last Wednesday.

Since then, nine BC Interior residents have died of COVID-19, which includes a person in their 40s who died over the weekend, health officials confirmed today.

Here’s an update from the health authority on its three active outbreaks:

  • Sandalwood Retirement Resort independent living in Kelowna has 28 cases: 26 residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Orchard Haven long-term care in Keremeos has two cases: one resident and one staff.
  • Spring Valley long-term care in Kelowna has 35 cases: 25 residents, 10 staff/other, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
