Having nearly vaccinated all long term care residents and staff, BC health officials are now preparing for seniors over the age of 80.
Dr. Bonnie Henry has confirmed that officials will begin informing people over age 80 about their vaccinations starting next week.
BC is planning to open 172 clinics with the help of dentists, midwives, retired nurses and paramedics working as vaccinators.
The government has previously stated that seniors will be able to pre-register for their shot by setting appointment using a mobile device, phone or computer.
On Tuesday, Henry said no one had died of COVID-19 in long-term care in the last 24 hours.
"It's a reflection of the vaccines that have been administered to residents and staff in long-term care, which are highly effective with even one dose," she said.
"We're in a period of vaccine hope and pandemic reality."
Meanwhile, Alberta and Quebec are already taking bookings for older seniors in their provinces this week and set to start vaccinations this week and next.
BC had previously stated its hope to begin vaccinating those over 80 for the first week of March.
