BC reports close to 2,000 COVID-19 cases over the weekend

British Columbia reports 1,984 new cases of COVID-19 over the three-day reporting period which brings the total number of active cases to 5,835.

This is how daily cases broke down over the weekend:

  • Sept 10-11: 823 new cases

  • Sept 11-12: 641 new cases

  • Sept 12-13: 520 new cases

This is where new/active cases are coming from in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 609 new cases (1,711 active)

  • Interior Health: 542 new cases (1,618 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 319 new cases (945 active)

  • Northern Health: 294 new cases (921 active)

  • Island Health: 220 new cases (607 active)

  • No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (13 active)

From the active cases there are 278 people in hospital, with 139 of those individuals in intensive care.

Over the past 72 hours there have been nine new deaths reported, bringing the pandemic death toll to 1,865.

Of the new deaths; three were reported in Fraser Health, three in Interior Health, two in Island Health, and one in Vancouver Coastal Health.


An additional two health care facilities have declared outbreaks, this brings the total number of active outbreaks in the province to 24.

  • Interior Health: Village at Mill Creek – second floor, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre, Spring Valley Care Centre, Kamloops Seniors Village, Hillside Village, The Hamlets at Westsyde, Joseph Creek Care Village, Nicola Meadows, David Lloyd Jones, Sun Pointe Village, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Hardy View Lodge and Rose Woods Village

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Arbutus Care Centre, Brock Fahrni, Louis Brier Home and Hospital, Opal by Element

  • Fraser Health: Northcrest Care Centre, Menno Home, and Chilliwack General Hospital

  • Island Health: Sunset Lodge

  • Northern Health: Jubilee Lodge and Fort St. John Hospital


Over the past week (Sept.3-9) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 3,305 (69.2%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 411 (8.6%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,063 (22.2%)

In the past week (Sept.3-9) this is how cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccianted to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 306.3

  • Partially vaccinated: 92.9

  • Fully vaccinated: 27.4

In the last two weeks (Aug. 27 to Sept.9) this is how cases hospitalized were broken down from unvaccianted to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 282 (81.0%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 18 (5.2%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 48 (13.8%)

Over the past two weeks (Aug. 27 to Sept.9) this is how cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age were broken down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 38.4

  • Partially vaccinated: 7.0

  • Fully vaccinated: 1.1

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 34.2 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.


Since December, BC has administered 7,618,453 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

From eligible people 12 and older in the province, 85.8% (3,978,624) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 78.4% (3,632,547) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 86.4% (3,737,364) have received their first dose and 79.3% (3,428,060) received their second dose.


As of this morning, 2,110,676 people have accessed their BC Vaccine Card.
