BC reports 559 new COVID cases, no new deaths in long term care

Health officials reported 559 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday along with one additional death.

According to Dr. Bonnie Henry, no one in a long term care or assisted living facility has died in the past 24-hours.

"This is a reflection of the vaccines... it's remarkable," she said.

"This is a success we need to appreciate and celebrate."

Of the new cases, 132 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 278 were in the Fraser Health region, with 39 in Island Health, 43 in Interior Health, and 66 in Northern Health.

There are now 238 people in hospital, a jump of 15 in the past 24-hours, with 69 people in intensive care.

To date, there have been 101 confirmed cases of variants in BC.

So far 287,950 COVID vaccines have been administered in BC, including 58,896 second doses.

Henry said 10 in 100,000 doses have led to allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.

She also confirmed that everyone 80 years of age and over will be contacted over the next two weeks about vaccine.
