VIDEO: O’Keefe Ranch brings back its terrifying ‘Field of Screams’

Field of Screams at O’Keefe Ranch is a classic haunted corn maze that has been running in the Okanagan for eight years, and this season they really ramped up the scary with its theme of Zombie Apocalypse.

For the 2021 season, an additional maze has been added to really get the fear flowing. Three of the four mazes contain props, walkthrough sets, and a wide variety of scary actors to give you the fright of your life.

The fourth maze is completely dark, with no actors to hunt you down or make you scream, those who are brave enough to enter are left with the quiet of the night and whatever else might go bump in the dark.

“We’ve got all different kinds of scares out there, we’ve got jump scares, psychological scares, and pure terror from actors who will follow and hunt you down, and there's, of course, the end of the maze if you can make it there... where we have chainsaw-wielding actors,” said Matt Brown, Creative Director of Field of Screams.

“When people get to the film sets and where the actors are, they’re much larger and more elaborate sets than we’ve ever used before all in one space. It makes the experience last quite a bit longer and probably a lot more terrifying.”

People can expect to be in each maze for 20 minutes or longer, and in the dark maze guests can expect to be wandering around for double that time.

O’Keefe Ranch is not only known for its scary mazes but the property itself is said to be haunted with real ghouls supposedly lurking in the night.

“There's a whole series that is being done right now on O’Keefe Ranch, with ghost hunters and ghost gear, so yeah it’s really haunted,” said Brown.

This is an all-age event, but it's generally catered to young adults and adults, but it is up to the parent's discretion if they choose to bring their children.

“Listen, I’m a father of four and I wouldn't bring my kids here, but people do. It’s based on the sensitivity of your child, but already tonight I’ve had to escort a few people out of the maze that were just a little too scared,” laughs Brown.

Running right up until Halloween, it’s the perfect way to ramp up the spooky season experience.

“The actors and the set are there to give an enhanced immersive experience, where hopefully somehow, by some type of scare, we terrify you and make you have nightmares.”

Tickets are being sold online in half-hour intervals to minimize wait times, and because it is an outdoor event masks and vaccination status is not mandatory.
