Residents of the Upper Nicola Band were notified of two new cases of COVID-19 in the community.
According to Chief Harvey McLeod, the cases were confirmed through the First Nations Health Authority on Thursday. The affected people will remain anonymous.
At this point, the individuals who tested positive are self-isolating and Interior Health has begun contact-tracing.
"During these times, it is important for us to stay kind to one another and help each other out if possible," said Chief McLeod. "It is nobody's fault if we get sick and we cannot blame anyone, but we can be kind and help each other out."
"Please reach out if you are not feeling well or if someone in your home is not feeling well. Through good communication, we can get through this together with minimal suffering."
The band will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when they are available. Anyone affected by the virus in the community should contact the UNB Health Office at (250)350-3342.
