The Central Okanagan Food Bank came together with five local corporate partners, to put together over 400 emergency wildfire relief food hampers last night.
The call was put out on Wednesday, and within 24 hours Sysco Foods, Big White, Capri CMW, Kinsmen, and Kelsa Aid, all came together to support the foodbank.
In a two hour span, teams worked together pushing shopping carts around a stack of non-perishable goods to fill up boxes and boxes of goods.
“It’s an amazing example of what happens when community members come together to help people and neighbours in need,” said Tammie Watson, Chief Development Officer at the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
The food bank has been receiving multiple requests for emergency food services, and more are expected to come with wildfires tearing through BC.
“Volunteering is essential for all non-for-profits, especially a food bank. We rely on about 30 to 40 volunteers per day, to do the work that we do, in order to feed our community,” said Watson.
If you’re looking to support communities affected by wildfires you can go to the Central Okanagan Food Bank website to send monetary donations, or even volunteer your time.
