Police searching for suspect following serious assault at Interior homeless shelter

Police in the BC Interior are on the lookout for a suspect following an assault that took place outside of a homeless shelter.

According to RCMP, just before 9:15 pm on Thursday, officers responded to the 100 block of Carsen Avenue in Quesnel for an alleged assault. A man reportedly walked into the homeless shelter when he allegedly beat another person.

The suspect then fled on foot before police arrived.

When officers got to the scene, they found a 36-year-old suffering from life-threatening injuries. The man was initially transported to a local hospital before being transported to a larger centre in critical condition.

"The Quesnel RCMP General Investigation Section has taken conduct of the investigation and is continuing a video and witness canvass today," said S/Sgt. Darren Dodge "We are asking anyone who was a witness to the incident and has not already spoken to police, or has dash-cam or other video surveillance to contact the Quesnel RCMP."

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
