Rover.com, “a leading dog name expert,” published its list of Canada’s top dog names and trends in 2018 and for the most part it’s what you’d expect.
When it comes to names for male dogs, Charlie leads the way, followed by Max, a name that’s popularity was up 43% this year.

A major factor in Canadians picking their dog names of late has been pop culture, as the list reports that 8% of all dog names are based on just that.
Names like Archie, Betty and Jughead from Riverdale, along with Serena, Fred and Luke from The Handmaid’s Tale are characters that have become very popular dog names of late.
Also impacting Canadians’ decision on names for dogs are players on their favourite sports teams and the Royal Family.
