A man has been arrested at Chicago O'Hare airport after allegedly staying there for three months. Aditya Singh, 36, was reportedly too scared to leave the airport due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A judge heard he survived on handouts from generous passengers.

Vladimir Putin's most famous critic has returned to Russia after being poisoned with Novichok last year. Alexei Navalny, 44, has already been arrested and detained for 30 days after landing in Moscow. He had been recovering from the poisoning in Germany. Putin's government has denied poisoning Navalny, despite strong evidence to the contrary.

The premier of the Australian state of Victoria has said tennis players will be given "no special treatment" as they quarantine after arriving in the country for the Australian Open. Daniel Andrews said the 72 players confined to hotel rooms in Melbourne for 14 days will not be allowed to leave early. "The virus doesn't treat you specially, so neither do we," he said.

Several thousand migrants heading to the US from Central America have been told not to make the journey by the incoming Biden administration. The caravan, estimated to be about 7,000-strong, has been blocked by police in Guatemala. They are in part motivated by President-elect Biden's commitment to loosen the US's border and migration policies.
