Columbia Bottle Depot makes generous donation to Pathways Abilities Society

In a statement by Charisse Daley of Pathways Abilities Society, she thanked the Columbia Bottle Depot for making a very generous donation to their non-profit organization. The donation allows Pathways Abilities Society to raise funds and continue their work towards creating a more inclusive community.

"The Columbia Bottle Depot not only assists our not-for-profit organization to employ people with diverse abilities in our community but also supports the organization financially. We are very grateful for this long-standing partnership!"

The donation of $42,198.12 equates to the space donated to the non-profit organization.

The donated space, which Pathways utilizes to employ members of our community with diverse abilities, incurs an operating cost of the value of the donation. In order to heat, illuminate and cover the overhead of the space donated to Pathways, the Columbia Bottle Depot has completely covered this so Pathways need not worry about how they will be able to continue raising funds and employ up to six people with diverse abilities in the space.

These employees are Heroes of Diversability and they sort, work and earn their own wage which gives them something we all desire, self-worth. Because of this donation, it works out as a win for Columbia Bottle Depot customers who know that when they make a donation to the 1936 Kent Road location, they're helping Pathways create a customized employment plan that gives someone with diverse abilities a career and maybe one day, because of your donation, they’ll be able to gain their independence.

When we spoke to the Cassan family, they shared that this is something their whole family who owns and operates the Columbia Bottle Depot are passionate about providing because it works out as a win-win-win for their customers, individuals with diverse abilities in our community and Pathways, who may continue to operate as a non-profit organization helping people with diverse abilities enter the workforce and become paid permanent full-time or part-time employees.

And this isn't an overnight collaboration or one-time donation either, the Cassan family has been supporting Pathways for over 10 years.

If you wish to ensure that this space continues to be well used and would like to make your own donation, all you have to do is return bottles, cans or recyclables to the Columbia Bottle Depot location on Kent Road, but leave them with the Pathways team at their entrance off Brendin Road.
