Canada is the most popular country in the world among people investigating a move abroad, a new analysis of Google search data has shown.
The Great White North topped the list for 30 countries, including across southern Africa, Western Europe, South Asia, Mexico and parts of the Caribbean.
But, according to the data compiled by money transfer service Remitly, the most searched-for country among potential Canadian immigrants is Japan.
Japan came in at number two in the overall world rankings, the figures show, with 13 countries searching for immigration information about the Land of the Rising Sun ahead of anywhere else.
Spain was third (topping the list for 12 countries), followed by Germany (8) and Qatar (6).
The US and UK were joint-9th, topping the list for two countries.
“Featuring prominently in the Global Peace Index as one of the safest places to live, and boasting low unemployment rates alongside a high amount of immigration options, it’s arguably no surprise that Canada is head and shoulders above the rest of the world,” Remitly explained.
“Add to that its friendly locals and beautiful scenery and it’s little surprise that the country is so appealing.”
The firm added: “However, Canadians themselves were found to be angling for a move to second placed Japan, yet another country known for its stunning scenery, safety and vast array of job opportunities.”
