A bank robber who’s believed to be linked to around a dozen bank robberies was nailed by a pair of plain clothed police officers this weekend.
After a recent string of bank robberies, the Vancouver Police Department officers focused on the few banks in the downtown core that were open on Sunday.
Around 2 p.m., they noticed a man enter a bank downtown and commit a robbery, at which point they jumped into action.
The two officers arrested Darwin McGrath, a 50-year-old Vancouver man, with stolen money a short time after he left the bank.

“We are very proud of our two patrol officers who went beyond the call and brought an end to a series of dangerous robberies that were continuing at an alarming rate,” says Sgt. Jason Robillard.
“Although no physical injuries were reported in any of the robberies, these types of crimes can be emotionally distressing for anyone involved.”
McGrath is in custody and has been charged with one count of robbery, but the investigation into another 10 robberies he’s believed to be responsible for is ongoing.
Ten of the robberies took place in Vancouver, with the other being committed in Surrey, and the VPD anticipates further charges against McGrath.
