The 47-year-old, who was a “non-swimmer,” was in the water with his family on Tuesday when he disappeared under the surface around 4 p.m.
Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says Coquitlam RCMP’s victim services are doing all they can to help the family get through this difficult time, but also warned people about the popular lake.
“Buntzen Lake is a great place to cool off in hot weather, but it has steep drop-offs just metres from the shoreline,” he said.
“We encourage everyone to use their best judgement and strongly assess their swimming level whenever they enter the water.”
This isn’t the first incident at Buntzen Lake this summer, as a 19-year-old Surrey man drowned in the lake less than a month ago.
