Every three months, FortisBC conducts a review of its gas rates to make sure they’re fair and this time around the news is good for customers.
Rates will not be going up on July 1 and customers won’t be seeing any changes to the cost of natural gas on their bill.
As of July 1 there will be no change to #NaturalGas prices. With rates remaining at historic lows, natural gas continues to be an affordable energy option for your home or business https://t.co/NsLlDMEcCC #BC pic.twitter.com/mEdSrUaxFN

FortisBC announced today that it had received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to keep the price of gas steady.
The current approved cost of gas rate for most of B.C. is $1.549 per gigajoule (GJ), which is near historic lows.
The price was as high as $10 per GJ as recently as 2009, but has slowly plummeted to near $1 per GJ since then.
According to FortisBC, the popularity of natural gas continues to grow and the company saw more than 20,000 new customers across the province last year.
“Our more than one million customers have made it clear that they want access to natural gas in their homes,” said Diane Roy, vice-president of regulatory affairs at FortisBC.
“As both an affordable and reliable fuel, natural gas is a smart choice for our customers especially since prices remain near their lowest levels in over a decade.”
There is no mark up to the cost of gas, so customers pay what FortisBC pays for natural gas and propane.
