7.4% of voting packages have been returned with 2 weeks left in electoral reform referendum

After a slow start, the numbers are starting to pick up when it comes to British Columbians returning their referendum voting packages.

With two weeks left to mail in the ballots on electoral reform, data from Elections BC shows that 243,969 eligible voters have done so.

With 3,293,845 registered voters in B.C., that’s a response rate of 7.4%.

While it’s still a low percentage, it’s a large improvement over the 0.7% response that was reported by Elections BC 10 days ago.

Certain areas still seems to be struggling, however, as much of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley sits under 4%.

Meanwhile, areas like Prince George, Kamloops, Nanaimo, the Kootenays and parts of Kelowna have all shot up over 10%.

With the Canada Post strike ongoing, Elections BC is urging voters to send in their voting package soon to ensure it’s received by the Nov. 30 deadline.
