He was the RCMP’s first full time professional therapy dog in Canada and the beloved yellow lab’s kind demeanor and calming presence has helped provide support to many during crisis.

Max has also helped plenty of people speak to police or testify in court, and was the first therapy dog to go to court with a child victim in B.C.

He was awarded the Unsung Hero Award for Community Service in 2016 and, in 2017, won the BC Achievement Award alongside his handler, Krista Levar.

“In his retirement, Max plans to do some relaxing and swimming at various lakes, guard his front porch and enjoy getting treats without having to work for them” says a release from the RCMP.

To celebrate Max’s wonderful career, the Prince George RCMP detachment is inviting the public to say a fond farewell to him on Tuesday.

There will be an award ceremony at 1:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and fun for everyone until around 3 p.m.
