25-year-old hit by train and killed in the Okanagan, ‘may have been intoxicated’ says RCMP

A 25-year-old Penticton man is dead after being hit by a train in Lavington.

North Okanagan RCMP, along with CN Police and the Lavington Fire Department, responded to the fatal collision around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

It’s reported that the man was hit by a slow moving train near Hill Drive and Hwy 6.

After investigating, it’s believed the man was intoxicated when he made his way onto the tracks.

“The investigation suggests that the deceased may have been intoxicated and seen walking on the track moments before he was killed,” said Cpl. Yannick Lescarbeau.

“Walking on tracks where train operates is not only illegal but it has the potential for serious risks of injury or death.”

No further information, including the deceased’s identity, is being released at this time.
