Salt & Brick donates sushi lunch after Lululemon break-in

Local restaurant Salt & Brick took the time to be a good samaritan and neighbour for a fellow downtown business this week.

On Tuesday, Lululemon on Bernard Avenue was broken into by thieves and while they only stole some clothes, it left employees rather shaken up.

“In the morning I received a message from store manager Dewi Peters saying they had been broken into and asking if we could do something special for the staff,” explained Casey Greabeiel, owner of Salt & Brick.

“I jumped to action and called our head chef James Holmes asking for a favour.”

Salt & Brick usually starts service at 5 p.m., but chef Holmes went in early to whip up something special for the rattled retailers down the street.

“James has a gruff exterior but a big heart,” laughed Greabeiel.

“So he did the sushi platter in a heart shape and wrote some nice messages on the box just to personalized it for them.”

The surprise gesture was well received by the employees, who were also very thankful for the lunch being vegan-friendly.

“Ultimately it was about taking a negative and turning it into a positive,” said Greabeiel.

“What I've learned about doing business in Kelowna is that we're one huge community and it’s all about helping one another succeed.”

Lululemon's store manager Peters expressed her gratitude to the restaurant on Instagram, adding in the "not a paid ad" hashtag for authenticity.

Way to show that community spirit Salt & Brick!
