Vincent Paul Abbott (also known as Vinnie Paul), best known as the drummer for Hellyeah and former drummer and co-founder of the heavy metal band Pantera, has died at age 54. Paul also wrote and produced music.
Paul's previous band, Pantera, announced his passing on their Facebook page, asking that fans respect the family's privacy. No further details about the cause of death were provided.
Several artists have voiced their grievances and condolences to the family through social media.
Terribly saddened by the news of Vinnie Paul’s passing. Vinnie was a beloved fixture in the rock and metal communities and we will miss seeing him out on the road. His impact on heavy music is immeasurable. Rest In Peace Vinnie, condolences to your family, friends and fans.

Vinnie was predeceased by his brother, Darrell Lance Abbott (also known as Dimebag Darrell), who passed away in 2004.
Both musicians were apart of the band Pantera, as well as a band they formed by the two after the break-up of Pantera, called Damageplan.
