Suspects in knife-point ATM robbery foiled by On-Star device

A pair of suspects that allegedly robbed a couple at an ATM in Salmon Arm were foiled by the the On-Star device in the victims’ vehicle.

RCMP responded to reports of the knife-point robbery at a bank in Salmon Arm on Monday afternoon.

The couple using the ATM were accosted by a man wearing a knife who demanded money and keys to their vehicle.

He left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, the victims’ vehicle and a female accomplice who had pink hair and printed pants.

However, their escape was unsuccessful as the RCMP were able to track the vehicle thanks to its On-Star device and the two suspects were arrested in Vernon.

Police were able to recover the vehicle, weapon, disguise, cash and identification that belonged to the victims.

The two suspects, a 24-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, are of no fixed address and remain in custody in Salmon Arm.

They now await a court appearance to face charges of armed robbery, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and theft of a motor vehicle.
