Powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocks the coast of Mexico

A powerful earthquake shook south Mexico on Friday.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicentre was close to the Pacific coast in the southern state of Oaxaca, roughly 230 kilometres east of Acapulco.

The 7.5 magnitude quake reportedly caused crowds of people to stream out on to the streets of Mexico City and in Oaxaca state's capital, closer to the quake's epicenter.

A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake shook Mexico in September 2017, that left 369 dead.
