One of Missouri’s largest cases of illegal deer poaching has resulted in quite the unique punishment.
On Dec. 6, David Berry Jr. of Brookline received a one-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to taking wildlife illegally in multiple states and Canada.
While it is unknown how many deer Berry took, Missouris Department of Conservation (MDC) has estimated that it would have been several hundred.
"The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste,” said Lawrence County Conservation Agent Andy Barnes.
MDC has confirmed with NowMedia that Berry will be required to watch Bambi at least once a month for every month he is in jail.
In addition to his one-year sentence, Berry will spend an extra 120 days in jail for a felony firearms probation violation.
That means Berry will have at least 18 times to watch Bambi and think about his actions.
